The study of thissubject will allow the students to get knowledge of the role of total qualitymanagement in the evolution of organisational theories,understand the conceptual framework of totalquality , knowledge of principles and methods ensuring satisfactionof customer needs with minimal expenditure, knowledge of the requirementsfor creation, implementation and certification ofquality management systems,ability to plan the creation and implementation of an organisational quality management system, understanding of how tochoose proper ways, methods and tools for solution of external and internal organisationalquality problems.
The subject study is based on the principles of problem-basedteaching and learning: an introductory theoretical course is delivered, andabilities and skills are acquired and consolidated through group analysis ofquality management. The teacher focuses on support for autonomous learning ofthe student through creating educational environments favourable for analysisof total quality management problems on an organisationallevel, possibilities for finding individual solutions based on theoretical total quality management knowledge.
A cumulative assessment system is applied. Level of student theoreticalknowledge is assessed by a test. Demonstration of subject-specific andtransferable skills serves as the basis for assessment of learning achievementswhen performing a non-traditional assignment: a group analysis of total qualitymanagement problem under the guidance of the teacher. Working in pairs, groups and individually they search for, gather information, discuss, summarise it in writing and prepare presentations: raise questions for discussions, answer peers’ questions, devise and sustain arguments for/against, express opinions, etc. Students develop foreign language use, IT, communication, presentation, discussion, argumentation, group work skills. They familiarise themselves with the principles and benefits of using the European Language Portfolio for self-directed learning: are able to assess own and peers’ performance by referencing to the descriptors of the self-assessment grid of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages by levels, set goals, reflect own learning, linguistic, cultural, technical failures, direct the learning process towards the intended level.
